What to Expect with Neuropsychological/Psychological Testing

  1. Clinical Interview

    1 hour
During the clinical interview, Dr. Mesirow will get to know you/your child and gather relevant social, emotional, educational, medical and behavioral history. This is when Dr. Mesirow will determine which specific assessments will be used based on your referral questions. Of note, please complete ALL NEW PATIENT INTAKE FORMS (on the right tab of the website) prior to the Clinical Interview.

  2. Testing Sessions

5-6 hours total; usually broken down into 2-3 testing sessions
Various testing measures will be administered to evaluate your/your child’s cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning (depending on your referral question). Testing will include self-report ratings, performance-based assessments, and gathering collateral information from teachers, partners, or other professionals, as appropriate.

  3. Data Interpretation & Written Report

    6-12 hours depending on complexity
This is completed by Dr. Mesirow after you/your child has completed all testing. Dr. Mesirow will compile, score, and analyze the testing results and write up a detailed report with clinical history, diagnostic findings, diagnoses, and recommendations.

  4. Feedback session

    1-1.5 hours
Dr. Mesirow will review the results and recommendations with you. You will have an opportunity to ask questions to gain insight into the findings.

You can expect the whole assessment process to take approximately 4 weeks from the intake to the feedback session.

  5. Cost

The cost of the assessment ranges from $3,000-$4,500 depending on the complexity of the case (this will be determined once all intake paperwork is completed). The cost includes the clinical interview, testing hours, scoring, interpretation, report writing, and feedback session. You will be given with a copy of the report to provide to your/your child’s therapist, physician and/or school as you see fit.

  6. Do you accept insurance?

Dr. Mesirow does not bill insurance directly for testing/assessment. With PPO insurances plans, Dr. Mesirow is considered an out-of-network provider and you may be reimbursed in full or in part. We can provide you with a superbill once the assessment is completed to give to your insurer. Further, assessments may also qualify for reimbursement using a Health Savings account or Flexible Savings Account – many people enjoy using this option because it is pre-taxed income, which greatly reduces the overall cost.

  7. What types of payment do you accept?

Dr. Mesirow accepts cash, check, Venmo, Zelle, Apple Pay and all major credit cards (with a 3% fee).

  8. What ages does Dr. Mesirow assess?

Dr. Mesirow completes evaluations with individuals ages 5 and up.
